Standard:
4b Students know the influence that the ocean has on the weather and the role that the water cycle plays in weather patterns.

Holistic Rating: Moderate coverage of this standard.
Pages 180-181, 185, and 299 provide moderate coverage of this standard.

Aspects that do not help student learning:
The information is located in different sections of the text, and is not presented a user-friendly, focused way. The California Science Framework (page 75) describes many important influences of the ocean, and these are limited in the text. Key concepts include the tempering effect of the ocean; ocean currents move heat from the equator to the north and south; water cycle through evaporation and condensation move heat through the atmosphere from the equator to the north and south; ocean has profound global and local effects on weather.

Teacher's Edition that we used cited these pages as addressing this standard, but we did not find a significant correlation:
CA2-CA3, 100, 169, 180-181.
