6 Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations. As a basis for understanding this concept and addressing the content in the other three strands, students should develop their own questions and perform investigations.

Investigations have many components that build upon one another. For each Investigation and Experimentation standard except 6a, students have multiple experiences in practicing and mastering the I&E standard while learning Grade 4 science content.

Instructional materials provide only moderate coverage of standard 6a.
