Standard: Show Content Tip
1c Students know electric currents produce magnetic fields and know how to build a simple electromagnet.
Holistic Rating: Moderate coverage of this standard.
| Pages D56-D57, D60-D61, and D66-D72 provide moderate coverage of this standard. |
Aspects that help student learning: In the activity on pages D66-D67, students construct and experiment with an electromagnet.
Aspects that do not help student learning: Saying that the compass with wrapped wire is a "current detector" takes away from the focus of the standard which is that flowing electricity produces a magnetic field. This concept needs to be the focus of the instruction.
