In the activity on pages D66-D67, students construct and experiment with an electromagnet.


Aspects that do not help student learning:
Saying that the compass with wrapped wire is a "current detector" takes away from the focus of the standard which is that flowing electricity produces a magnetic field. This concept needs to be the focus of the instruction.
