6f Select appropriate tools (e.g., thermometers, meter sticks, balances, and graduated cylinders) and make quantitative observations.

Holistic Rating: Moderate coverage of this standard.
Teacher's Edition that we used cites many activities as meeting this standard that do not significantly address this standard.

Aspects that help student learning:
Four investigations (A4-A5, B24-B25, B44-B45 and B74-B75) provide moderate coverage of this I&E standard and also address grade level content standards. Three investigations provide moderate coverage (A86-A87, C12-C13, C62-C63) but do not address grade level content standards. The limited amount of student choice in selecting appropriate tools prevents this standard from being treated in-depth.

Aspects that do not help student learning:
Few, if any, of the investigations give students the opportunity and ability to truly guide the range of tools available and their selection. Cited activities that provide only limited coverage include A14-A15, A22, A23, A70-A71, A108-A109, A114-A115, A120-A121, B61, B85, B122-B123, C33, C56-C57, C93
