The world’s interest in renewable energy is growing, and at a time like this, some good examples of implementations of renewable energy can help further that interest. An example is the recently completed San Francisco 5 MW solar energy project, which involved the deployment of some 24,000 solar panels, making it the largest municipal solar installation in California.
This initiative at the municipal level sends a positive message to all cities that do not have similar or superior resources at their disposal, along with the environment to implement solar energy.
Solar energy is abundantly available in most regions of the world and some countries or cities that decide to invest in solar is the way to go, which may spark interest in others in their region as well.
In the Americas, the U.S. is the leading country in terms of power generation from wind. In Asia, China is leading the way. In fact, it has recently taken over the U.S. as the leading investor in renewable energy, investing $ 10 million this quarter. The interest in renewable energy in these two countries, will hopefully lead many others to follow suit and invest in renewable energy.
Two of the main issues related to investment in solar or wind energy is the initial cost and time required to obtain a return on investment. Another major factor may be the changing nature of energy. These are important considerations and progress those countries that could keep countries from investing in these sources, particularly those countries that have other means of generating electricity itself, such as coal, nuclear and water.
While some countries consider the generation of renewable energy as the way to go forward, others are not able to invest in this idea, however, they may have some incentive to complete projects such as in SF.
