General CABAP Questions and Answers

Who else is involved in BAP? How is it working in other states?
California is a "Phase II" BAP state, joining the network in the 2001-02 school year. In all, 26 states have received funds to participate. Phase I states are generally further along in their network-building. California has more schools than any other participating state. Information about the other states involved is available on the national BAP website, http://www.nsta.org/bap/.

How are email topics screened to provide teachers with important information without just swamping their mailboxes?
Email messages to the CABAP network come from limited sources:

  • NSTA sends out an E BLAST newsletter about once a month, announcing resources, news and opportunities from a national perspective to all BAP participants.
  • CABAP partners send out announcements on a timely basis - to just Key Leaders or to KLs and POCs. (We put in the header who the message is going to, so you'll know who else already got it.)
  • Key Leaders can send messages to any other Key Leaders in the state and to their own POCs.
  • POCs can send messages to other POCs assigned to their KL.
The CABAP database will not be sold or given to any commercial enterprise - any message to the entire network has to come through NSTA or the CA State Coordinator.

Will there be a forum available on-line where we can put up units that are developed at our site to be shared? (Like the ones in Strategic Science Teaching)
We will continue to add to and develop this website with resources that are useful to science teachers. If you have something you'd like to share, please send it to Libby Rognier at lrognier@wested.org.

Once you get all of the Key Leaders and Points of Contact - then what? How do you see this project working in 5-10 years?
Once we've built the network, we want to keep it going! We will continue to share information and offer professional development and resources to CABAP participants. We also hope that KLs and POCs will become local advocates for quality science education (if they're not already!) and we will do what we can to support those efforts.

It will be an ongoing task to replace KLs and POCs as they retire or change assignments, and we encourage current leaders to mentor others to take their places, if necessary. We can assist by supplying training resources as needed.
