In addition to providing timely information about science education issues and resources, CABAP is currently engaged in three major projects to help improve both the quantity and quality of California K-12 science education:
- Grade 4 & 5 Standards Correlations – This online resource helps you:
- Find where instructional materials cover each of the 4th and 5th grade science standards;
- Access teacher-oriented science content adopted in 2000 and the older editions of Foss; and
- Understand the intent of specific standards.
- High School Science Textbook Survey – At the request of county science administrators, CABAP asked CA high school science teachers to fill out a brief survey regarding the texts that they use - evaluating how well the texts match the state science standards and how useful they find the book for teaching a specific course. The responses of over 200 teachers are organized by subject and by publisher.
- Key Leader Professional Development Modules – CABAP has sponsored special professional development modules at past CSTA conferences. The Presenter Notes, Handouts and Transparencies Masters/Power Point slides for these sessions are posted here, so that the PD sessions may be presented locally.
- Science and Literacy – Science topics provide a great opportunity to help students practice and improve their English/ Language Arts reading, comprehension, and writing skills. CABAP collaborated with the state Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee in their development and production of the book Strategic Science Teaching Grades K-12: A Sampler of Science Lessons Connecting Literature with the California Standards. CABAP disseminates this SST book to KLs and POCs, and provides training in using it.
