Grade 4/5 Standards Correlations

Using these Correlations:
As you can see from the red links above, these correlations are organized first by Science Content Area: Physical, Life, Earth, Investigation & Experimentation. Clicking on a content area opens a listing of the relevant standards including:

  • A Concept Overview for that set of standards
  • Analysis of the treatment of the standards in that content strand for each of the instructional materials
  • Content Tips for many of the standards

The Overview provides the "big picture," including a graphic Concept Map that shows how the standards work together to provide understanding of the concept. Content Tips provide in-depth explanations of the content of the standard, and are written to enhance a teacher's understanding of the science underlying the standard statement. The Concept Overviews and Content Tips open in separate windows, so you can easily return to the standards list.

For each publisher, we have analyzed where the materials cover each standard as well as the depth of coverage (In-Depth, Moderate, or Limited). The correlations include notes on "Features that help student learning" and "Features that do not help student learning." The analysis may also contain an icon, which indicates an area of concern to us.

Navigation Tips:
The "You are here" trail at the top of each page indicates what path you followed to get to that page, including the publisher's name.

The Grade 4 Map or Grade 5 Map link on the Navigation Bar will show you a map of links to all of the standards for that grade, by publisher, as well as direct links to each of the Concept Overviews and Content Tips. Once you have become familiar with these correlations, you may find this useful to quickly go to the exact page you want.

The bottom of each page has a Previous and Next button. Previous will take you to the lettered standard before the one you are currently viewing. (It is not a Back button – if you start viewing at 3c, Previous will take you to 3b, not the previous page you were viewing.) The Next button will take you to the next Standard or Concept within a specific publisher's materials. When you get to the end of a Content area, Next will take you to the first concept in the next content area. When you get to the end of the Standards for a specific publisher, the Next button will not appear.
